Drive type: Direct drive

LD series

No belt, no screw, nothing in between.

In a direct drive the force sits where it is needed. There is no transmission element between motor and carriage that could stretch, develop play or wear out. The scale measures at the carriage itself, so the value at the end is the actual position rather than the calculated one.

What defines this type

Measurement at the carriage

An optical scale with 1 µm pitch lies in the profile slot and the read head sits on the carriage. The control loop therefore closes behind every mechanical element.

50 m/s² with no reversal play

With no gearing in between there is nothing to take up when direction changes. The carriage returns along the same path it arrived on.

Cleanroom to ISO 5

The axis runs dry, with encapsulated guide blocks and extraction at both head pieces. There is no belt abrasion because there is no belt.

Where it ends

A direct drive attracts swarf. In machining environments we build the LK with a cover strip instead.
